Thoughts That Bleed Thoughts That Bleed – Where Healthcare and Wellbeing Meet

Understanding
Non-Male Health

What is Non-Male Health

It is… a term I have made up.
Apologies.
(Here, you can find my full ramblings on why).

In short, I’m playing with language.

You see, I am passionate about what you might call women’s health.

But that term is lacking. So lacking.

Complexities that arise from ‘women’s health’ are a combination of biological and social factors.

But what about people for whom large portions of women’s health play a significant role in their lives, but don’t identify as women?
What about transgender individuals? What about non-binary people?

Limitations in our language limit our thinking. And that is not sustainable as we move forward.

Trialling the term Non-male health is not necessarily the solution, but something I am willing to play with for now.

Get feedback on.

Adjust as I learn more and speak to more people.

It isn’t perfect, but it will do for the minute.
Let me know what you think! And watch this space change.

Right, let’s go again.

What is Non-Male Health?

What is the Gender Health Gap?  Why does it exist?

What are the simplest ways we can start making a difference to Non-Male Health both locally and globally?

I know intuitively, as you may do too, that healthcare does not treat male and non-male people the same.

Not in MEDCs, not in LEDCs.

But why? And in what way?
And how can we, as mere mortals, tackle this?

These are the questions I want to start answering.

By learning, reading, by reaching out to organisations and listening to experts.

And I want to share it with you as I go.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, follow along as I share my learning.

Let me know if you have any thoughts, insights or real-world experience on anything I talk about.

I’d love to hear from you.

Maybe, hopefully, along the way we can find a little space where we can make a difference.

Yours Truly,
KM
